I am 37 and I weigh 298 pounds. I have severe low back pain and have had for 4+ years. Approx 20 months ago, my legs began to hurt, and at times to weak to push myself to standing position. It has gotten worse. At first the tests showed 2 blackened discs with numbness at S-1, straight leg raising positive for pain om the right back and buttock. They also said that I was really hyperflexic in the knee & ankle. One doctor recommended a 2 level disectomy. Another said he would not perform it because of my weight. Another doctor (spine specialist) said he would not do it, but that he felt the Spinal Cord Stimulator would poss. work. After ordering a MRI of Thorasic and EMG/NVC, he said if both test were fine he would perform the Stimulator. Well it took 4 mos. to get both tests done (those were the earliest times I could have it done. When I went to his office, he informed me that he had changed his mind. He felt that my weight would be a problem in him performing the surgery. He knew my weight in jan. Plus, I have no hope of exercising properly if I cannot walk more that 5-10 feet w/o severe pain. Standing causes significant pain, and I would like to get off this arsenal of drugs. Currently to get around the 10,000 square foot office, I have to use a manual chair. My pain in my back was bad enough, but now it travels down both legs, but mostly the right leg. Please tell me, can the Spinal Cord Stimulator be performed safely on a person of my size (5'10" 298lbs) and possibly bring the pain to where I can have my mobility back. I want to join back with my tennis team and get back on the treadmill. Right now, I would be happy just being able to walk in the park with my kids. Please help me. Are these doctors being straight with me, when they say there is nothing that they can do for me?
