specific questions for low back pain teamHi and thanks ahead of time:) Dec 22/2002 I was in a MVA in july 2001 in may 2002 i had a neurosurgen preform a keyhole laminectomy disectomy at L4-5 in oct 2002 i had a redo same level same side I have numbness in the left leg constant,i have burning sensations in both buttocks and pain across lower back wich is ok some days and not good on others i had a sigittal and axial T1 and T2-weighted images with Gadolinium done nov 13 2002 finding are as follows At the L4-5 level,the site of prior laminectomies is identified on the left. There is a moderately large amount of added soft tissue at the laminectomy defect extending along the left lateral aspect of the thecal sac,surrounding the traversing left L5 nerve root,and extending along the posterior aspect of the intervertebral disc,all of wich is enhancing and consistant with postoperativescarring.there is a small amount of residaul disc herniation poostlaterally on the right without significant mass effect upon adjacent neural structures.Overall,the L4-5 disc is desiccated and narrowed. There is a small metallic artifact at the site of the laminectomy,within the persumed scar tissue. SUMMARY: There is a moderately large amount of scar formation noted at the L4-5 level which also encases the traversing left L5 nerve root. There is a small amount of disc herniation posterolaterally on the right without significant mass effect upon neural structures.. why would i still be having the pain?and numbness? seeings how spine was also removed twice and its now narrowing and a new herniation is present ,what could i possibly do?in the years to come what would the prognosis be in your oppinion? I do lifting in my job..what is the chance that the new herniated disc will worsen and irratate the nerve root on the right side? and does this scar tissue that encases the L5 root causing the numbness and tingleing???
