Hello. I am sorry to hear about how much pain you have gone through. I was hoping that maybe you would be able to offer some advice - I am a 30 year old female. In 2001 I had a laminectomy on L5-S1 - after surgery my right leg and lower back pain still persisted. Went through every test imaginable for 2 years to find out why I was still in so much pain - the only test that showed anything was a discogram (showed balance of l5-s1 was ruptured. Dr. suggested fusion to relieve leg pain. I agreed after MUCH thought knowing how much pain I was in at that time . During surgery found another herniation and also did fusion without hardware. My doctor said he felt I had enough stability in there & didnt need any extra. This surgery was in 1/03. First few weeks after surgery my right leg pain came and went but was not constant. I hurt more from the incision than anything else. Once the incision became a little more comfortable my back pain and leg pain has increased and also the frequency of the pain. MY QUESTION IS - I thought fusion was supposed to eliminate my pain in my leg. Why is it still hurting? Dr. said it was residule pain. I dont believe it! Plus my back hurts worse now than ever. Is this a sign of a failed fusion? Do you think my Dr.should have used hardware to help the fusion?
